EPRDF resolute to rent seeking practice elimination

 

Addis Ababa, March 27 (WIC) – The 9th EPRDF Organizational Congress wrapped up yesterday adopting an 11-point resolution and re-electing Prime Minister Haile-Mariam Dessalegn and Demeke Mekonnen as Front Chairman and Deputy Chairman, respectively.

 

Recalling the impressive economic growth registered for nine years in a row, taking into account the popular inspiration induced by the untimely death of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi for yet another gain, having critically assessed the implementation of the GTP over the last two and half years, bearing in mind the smooth power transition, fully aware that EPRDF is wining the confidence of the public at large, the Bahir Dar Congress resolution, among others, states:
First, the Congress is resolute to the elimination of rent-seeking practice, freeing itself from the malaise and without any partisanship towards the interest of the peoples as per the democratic developmental line.
Second, though the growth rate of the agricultural sector was not attained as per the decision of the 8th Organizational Congress, it recognizes that growth has been registered in the 2004 production year. And it has agreed to curb the rising inflation and apply energies and synergies to register rapid growth in the sector organizing farmers development armies.
The Congress has also reaffirmed commitment to attain industrial targets by transforming small and micro enterprises into middle level industries. Having recognized that major infrastructure projects such as roads, hydro power plants, rail ways, water projects are well underway and considering that some have suffered delay and are sub-standard, the Congress pledges to strive for the successful implementation of outstanding projects effectively utilizing public money and raising financial resources to the same.
Recognizing the relative provision of education and health services as directed by the 8th Organizational Congress, it expressed conviction that maternal and child mortality would be reduced to the lowest possible rate.
With regard to education services, the Congress affirmed commitment to producing skilled manpower to sustain the rapid economic growth and to narrowing existing gaps due to capacity limitations and attitudinal problem.
It has also pledged to stamp down religious extremism bent on undermining the equality of religions and religious tolerance existing in the country since time immemorial.
Finally, the 9th EPRDF Organizational Congress vowed to uphold and pass down the legacies of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi to the public at large and posterity contributing share to the efforts of documenting his contributions to the Ethiopian peoples and African cause as well.
The four-day Congress was held with the theme: “With the thoughts of Meles, strong organization and development forces for the Renaissance!!!”
